How it works

How SortMyLoan works

A free, online loan-matching service that connects U.S. consumers with lenders. Two-minute request. No credit score impact to check.

Submitting your information will not affect your credit score. Lender criteria, terms, and rates vary.

What is SortMyLoan and how does it work?

SortMyLoan is a free online loan-matching service. When you submit a loan request, we share your application with lenders and lending partners in our network who may extend you an offer. We are not a lender — we connect consumers with lenders who can determine whether to extend an offer based on their own criteria. The process takes about two minutes to complete and submitting a request does not affect your credit score.

Four steps

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

Complete our online form. It takes about two minutes and covers the basics: how much you want to borrow, what it's for, your income and employment, and how to reach you. Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard 256-bit encryption.

  2. 2

We share with lenders in our network

Your application is shared with lenders and lending partners in our network who serve your state and consider your borrower profile. SortMyLoan does not approve loans or determine terms — we simply put your request in front of lenders who might extend an offer.

  3. 3

    Review any offer you receive

If a lender extends an offer, you'll be redirected to their site or contacted directly. Review the loan terms — amount, APR, fees, repayment schedule — before agreeing to anything. Comparing the APR (which includes fees) is the truest way to compare cost.

  4. 4

    Decide whether to proceed

You are under no obligation. If the terms work for you, you complete the lender's formal application for final approval and funding. If not, you can decline and explore alternatives. Funding speed varies by lender — many offer same-day or next-business-day deposits once approved.

What to expect from lender offers

Each lender in the SortMyLoan network independently sets its own loan terms. That means loan amounts, APRs, fees, and term lengths vary by lender, by state, and by your individual borrower profile. There is no single "SortMyLoan rate" — there are only lender offers.

When comparing offers, focus on three numbers:

  • APR (annual percentage rate) — the truest measure of cost. APR includes both interest AND fees, expressed as an annual rate. Lower APR = lower total cost over the loan term.
  • Total payment amount — the sum of all payments you'll make over the life of the loan. This is what you'll actually pay out of pocket.
  • Monthly payment — what you'll owe each pay cycle. Make sure it fits comfortably in your budget alongside your other obligations.

APRs from lenders in our network typically range from 5.99% to 35.99% for personal installment loans, though short-term loan products may have substantially higher APRs. Your actual APR depends on the lender's underwriting decision, your credit profile, income, state of residence, and loan amount.

Frequently asked questions

Is SortMyLoan a lender?

No. SortMyLoan is a loan-matching service. We are not a lender, do not make credit decisions, and do not originate loans. Our role is to share your loan request with lenders in our network who may extend an offer.

How much does SortMyLoan cost?

SortMyLoan is free for consumers. There is no charge to use our service. Lenders compensate us for connecting them with consumers — see our Advertiser Disclosure for details.

Does submitting a request affect my credit score?

Submitting a request through SortMyLoan does not affect your credit score. Some lenders in our network may perform a soft credit inquiry to assess preliminary eligibility, which is not visible to other lenders and does not impact your score. If you proceed with a specific lender's formal application, that lender may perform a hard inquiry, which can have a small temporary effect on your score.

How quickly will I receive an offer?

Most consumers see a decision shortly after submitting their request. If a lender extends an offer, you'll be redirected to review the terms. If no lender in our network matches at that moment, you'll be directed to a page explaining what to do next.

What if I receive an offer and don't accept it?

You are under no obligation to accept any offer. If the terms don't work for you, simply decline. We recommend comparing the APR (which includes fees) of any offer against alternative options before deciding.

What if no lender extends an offer?

If no lender in our network is able to extend an offer at the time of your request, we'll let you know on the page after submission. You may want to consider alternatives such as credit unions, community banks, or asking family. You can also try again in the future as our network and lender criteria change over time.

How is my information protected?

Your data is encrypted in transit (256-bit TLS/SSL) and sensitive fields including Social Security number, driver's license, and bank details are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption. Access is strictly limited and audited. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

Can I opt out of having my information shared?

Yes. If you do not want your information shared with lenders, do not submit a loan request — sharing is how our service works. If you've previously submitted and want to opt out of future sharing, use our Privacy Rights form to submit a Do Not Sell or Share request.
